Oracle Cloud – unplanned outage – November 7, 2017

On 11/07/2017 at 21:06 UTC, the Oracle Cloud Operations team received alerts indicating nodes were unreachable for multiple services. The Operations team initiated a Major Incident event and engaged the Engineering teams to investigate further. The Engineering team found the compute management hosts were unable to connect. The Service Operations team identified there was a Data Center wide network issue affecting multiple services in the Chicago Data Center. The Oracle Network team shutdown the interfaces on the core routers and this resolved the issue. The Service Operations team validated smoke tests in all compute Chicago zones, confirming on 11/08/2017 at 1:45 UTC all alerts were cleared and services fully restored. Further investigation continues and the Detailed-RCA is in progress. Target completion is scheduled for the 24th of November 2017.
